It’s Vintage!

In the past few years the buzz surrounding Vintage Inspired Weddings has certainly grown. Maybe it’s the fondness we have when we reflect upon spending time with our Grammas, maybe its the hip and funky way of reusing, re-purposing, and reinventing that is such a great style signifier of the 20 & 30 something indie crowd, or maybe it’s us “artsy folks” who work so hard at creating a stylized moment out of beautiful details. No matter how you get there, the collective feeling of a Vintage Inspired Event is certainly fabulous!

Of course fashion is a great way to set the mood for your event. Much thanks should go to forward thinking (and backwards reflecting) fashion designers…I am sure AMC’s Mad Men deserve some credit in all of this too. True vintage clothing can be hard to find, and the dresses tend to be quite tiny, fortunately these days there are wonderful opportunities to combine both vintage and modern day attire to get the perfect look.

These two are my absolutely adorable in-laws on their wedding day. Noah, is wearing a 1940’s vintage men’s suit he found in Madison at Re-Threads and Molli is wearing a beautiful (and tiny) 1940’s reproduction dress. Between the pincurls and the fedora the look was beautiful, elegant while still being casual and fun.

The above dress was designed by Madison’s very own Rebekah Jacobs of Rebekah Jacobs Couture. The dress was redesigned from the bride’s mother’s dress and then Rebekah’s detail work brought right into the 21st century.

Brooches are another wonderful way to add color, texture and style to your event. Whether it is a collection of brooches turned into a wedding bouquet, a something old or something borrowed pinned into the bouquet, or even working brooches into your table arrangements, it creates a look that is definitely sweet, definitely stylish and very vintage!

This simple little brooch you can see in our own front window at 402 E. Wilson Street right here in Madison!

Collecting or renting old dishware, textiles, flatware & service pieces can finish off the Artfully Vintage look for your special day. I grew up always checking the backs of dishware looking for its china stamp and I have collected dishware my whole life. If you are unable to rent vintage/collectible dishware locally, its certainly is quite easy to build your own wedding day plate collection for a comparable price to renting dishware. Garage sales, St. Vincent de Pauls, and Goodwill are all wonderful resources.

The two dishware collections above I found right here in town at St. Vinnies on Willie Street. So you can build your very own collection very affordably and look to Lavender Hill for Vintage Dishware Rentals starting in the Summer  of 2012!

check out Midwest Textile from right here in our Madison Area for beautiful linens to bring color and character to your cake table, sweetheart table or guest sign in!

Welcome to the LHE blog and my place to tell my couples' love stories and share random thoughts. A bit about me...I love weddings. I love my clients. I love comfy shoes and jeans. I am obsessed with EOS lipbalm. I talk too much about my kid. I drink way too much coffee. Often my clients and I become great friends, and mostly...I am so excited that you stopped by.

My absolute joy in being a wedding planner comes from celebrating with you during your most important moments.

So let's have some coffee & chat!
