real Lavender Hill Events wedding : ben & karla get married!!!

Wisconsin Summer wedding photographed at Allen Centennial Gardens.

When two amazing independent people come together, all of a sudden you have a spectacular couple…you know, that couple you just really want to be friends with. The couple that is driven, interesting, good humored, love good music and even better food. Well that is Ben & Karla. They are that clear-communicating couple {which I am sure is why they are such a great couple} with a complete vision for their wedding day… local food, local drink, local music, local flowers, local talent, all working together at a great venue {and to totally know them, you can easily substitute local with completely awesome!}  However, this couple was and is super busy in their professional lives and that is where help with the wedding planning was needed. It was so much fun to work with these two.  Their enthusiasm was always great. There was always great coffee and yummy treats at our meetings.  The energy was fabulous, the trust was deep… and did I mention they were GORGEOUS???

Ben and Karla chose to have a first look. Before the first look they exchanged love letters. Ben is big and Karla is tiny, and this is a theme that runs through the course of their relationship {there is more about that in the wedding ceremony, and I’ll tell you all about it.} In between the big and the tiny is a sweet softness, you see it in how they look at each other, you see it in the contemplative face as they read each others love letters. Their first look photographs are some of my favorite EVER, {and if you know these two, you know how perfectly it captures them} So take a look for yourself…

Often as a wedding planner I work real close with the bride, but Ben was the driving force in the wedding planning and it was quite wonderful. He had great ideas and thoughtful questions. Meeting with the two of them was always fun and it was always filled with great conversation, wedding planning and otherwise.

Here is Ben right before the wedding, and yeah, he’s that cool. But in all that coolness, there was the moment before he walked out to his wedding day, the moment that starts right before he waits for his girl, that moment I gave him ‘the nod’ to say that it was time to get out there. There was a look, the look of an excited groom, maybe a touch nervous, almost delicate in his anticipation to see the woman he is about to marry as she walks down the aisle to him. It was priceless, and it is one of my favorite wedding moments of the year.

It was such a beautiful day. The weather was glorious, the sky was blue, the air was clean with a soft breeze, and these two got married overlooking Madison. Karla walked in to Clark’s Trumpet Voluntary {which was top secret and picked by Ben & I.} It was so fitting to how regal and gorgeous and how stunning she is in her elegance, on her wedding day and always.  Their officiant spoke to them and their guests about Ben and Karla, the Mountain and the Valley, and how understanding the strength of the Mountain and depths of the Valley is how they hold each other up. And it is so true.

When we started planning Ben & Karla’s wedding they told me some ideas, their needs and wants, and then they told me to pull it all together. Boy was that fun! They were so open to ideas, to approaching things unconventionally, to playing with color and shapes. They wanted a wedding day that was arty, they wanted it to celebrate local, they wanted it to be cool, sweet, simple, chic with a pinch of vintage, and an air of elegance with a ‘this is a cocktail dress and suit kind of event’. I think that is what we got! Enjoy the details!

I’d go with love most everywhere
I’ll be the moon when the sun goes down
Just to let you know that I’m still around.
