wedding style…its all in the details

Welcome to Part II of the modern vs vintage photo shoot! You can revisit Part I here … This past Monday we finished up the great photo shoot concept that was created by a pair of my favorite photographers, Mandie of Red Gecko Studio & Bobbi of The Salty Peanut! These two smart ladies had a great idea which was a reflection of their own shooting styles… remember that Bobbi’s clients, so drawn to the vintage style wedding, choose her as their vintage photographer… and Mandie’s clients, so drawn to modern weddings and her dramatic and vivid style of photography, choose her… so they set out on a mission… can a modern photographer shoot a vintage wedding and vice versa?  They came to me with this great idea, told me they wanted a vintage look and modern look and “GO!” and so I did!

…so it begins…

Every bride and groom knows that the big picture of their wedding day is the Marriage. That is what is truly important, but the fun is in the details. How does your wedding day reflect who you are as a couple? Your interests, your passions, your personal style, the story of your love told in tid bits, linens and pretty things… Many of my clients know what they like, but wonder how do you tell the story, where do you go from the idea of

…I Like Vintage…

It begins with a concept.  I had just been looking at a new issue of Wisconsin Bride and was spellbound by a belt. Yup a belt! When Mandie and Bobbi said vintage to me, images of sheet music and a cello danced through my imagination all wrapped up in a belt and a messy braid…

I wanted vintage that went beyond barns and mason jars … so instead, beauty sprung from a beautiful belt, soft muted colors grounded by black, brown and ivory, old sheet music, luxurious linens, and a cello player who is a little bit Gothic,  a little edgy, and classically vintage.

I want edgy (think glamorous Helena Bonham Carter), I want to go beyond lace dresses and grey suits, I wanted THAT belt!  Lisa of Barry Chic did a fantastic job finding stunning, soft, chic dresses for the girls and classic brown suit for the fella. Pairing fabulous (not your typical bridal fare) earrings made for an amazing statement along with the flowing dresses and bridal hairdos.

Oh the table… the wonderful, wonderful table!  Linens, candles, collected plates, vintage silver, and sweet treats.. OH MY!  This is one of my most favorite tables ever!  Finding your style is about looking around at your stuff. It is a great idea to bring items from your everyday life to enhance your wedding day style… the dessert plate you found at a garage sale, your gramma’s silver champagne chiller, a great rug to make your sweetheart table that much more special. Mix and match, there few rules (and most are made to be broken anyway…) collect vintage plates or rent them, buy mix and match silverware from your local 2nd hand store (it is about the same price as renting) introduce some color in your napkins (it surprises everyone) put silver and gold together, and work with a fabulous florist, because your centerpieces matter.

Wedding details are like that perfect pair of earrings, it pulls it all together. Simple touches can make all the difference… isn’t it special “to be the girl in your arms” when you open up a wedding invitation…that is a collaborative moment between you and your stationeer.  Beautiful hankies can be found at antique stores and they make lovely wrappings for your bridesmaids gifts and personalize a bridal bouquet. Paper roses of old sheet music carry a theme through (100 Layer Cake’s How-To for paper flowers can be found here… DIY in moderation!) Even your menu presentation, the food you serve and the sweets are all part of the details that make up the wedding day that is all about you!

Welcome to the LHE blog and my place to tell my couples' love stories and share random thoughts. A bit about me...I love weddings. I love my clients. I love comfy shoes and jeans. I am obsessed with EOS lipbalm. I talk too much about my kid. I drink way too much coffee. Often my clients and I become great friends, and mostly...I am so excited that you stopped by.

My absolute joy in being a wedding planner comes from celebrating with you during your most important moments.

So let's have some coffee & chat!
