The shoot was the mastermind of the very talented Mandie Haberman of Red Gecko Studio & Bobbi Peterson of The Salty Peanut Photography (check out the links for their blog posts!) Inspired by the differences in their individual styles… one, modern, romantic & bold; the other, vintage, sexy & intimate… So with the idea of a modern photographers vision of a shoot and a vintage photographers vision of a shoot… we have the same shoot with the beautiful differences in photography styles. To make it all come to life…Mandie and Bobbi invited (me!) Lavender Hill Weddings + Events to design the concept. Armed with the single inspiration of a bold jewel toned statement necklace and the wonderful relationships we have here in the Madison wedding community, I set to work!
Couple of things about designing your Modern Wedding and finding your inspiration! Color is a great way to start, often wedding colors get narrowed down to 2 colors… but, STEP OUTSIDE THE BOX! The colors I sought out were Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald & Amethyst. If you love big and bold statements, then live it on your wedding day! Location matters! It’s hard (although juxtaposition can be powerful) to have a “Modern” wedding in a barn, so think about that. The vintage wedding trend that is filling today’s bridal imaginations is sometimes pushed as a modern concept… but what it is, is current… big difference. Style matters! The shape of your floral, the selection of your linens, the statement of your cake paints the color on the canvas, BUT the gown you choose, the tux he wears, and the jewelry you rock, carry the tone of the entire day (to learn more about how fashion styling works for your wedding day, check out Lisa’s blog post on our Modern Shoot!)…
To showcase all the wonderful talent, I decided to pair up images of similar context… so you can how their artistic eyes interpret my artistic vision!
So let’s stop the chatter, and lets look at some phenomenal photos of a Modern and Stylish Scene!
So here we have a collage of details through Mandie’s lens…
This great necklace is a great secret! 3 broaches wired onto one necklace makes for one heck of a show stopper! I found these little jems (no pun intended) at Shopko of all places. Remember, it’s not where it comes from but how you put it together. And can we give a WOW to Jade Jacobson for great eye makeup!
Who needs a veil when you can pin jewels and succulents into your hair!
And here we have a collage of details through Bobbi’s lens…
Dynamic linens will make the most neutral canvas come to life. If you have never been to Steenbock’s on Orchard, you must go. The food is amazing, the space is elegant, simple and lovely.
This fabulous bouquet was designed by Flora Designs by Jamae…always a favorite of mine, Jamae has a brilliant way of taking my ideas and inspiration and turning into a fabulous reality.
Sweet Caroline (I’m sure she’s never heard that before) looked great in this little Bill Levkoff bridesmaid dress… and who says you can’t glam up your bridesmaids with jems and sequins!
Last but certainly not least… this is probably one of my favorite photos from the entire shoot. Brittinia, George & Caroline were having so much fun… but of course! Also, look close … yes, those are sequins on the bridal gown. It’s called the Charlize and its at Marah’s Elegant Bridal for you to try on!
