It has been a mild Wisconsin Winter this 2011-2012 season, and that was good news for my February 11, 2012 bride Jackie…but on February 10th, the temperatures dropped, but this didn’t stop the adorable Jackie and Nathan from warming up all of Madison with their sweetness, laughter, and beautiful love story.
While neither Jackie and Nathan are from Madison; Jackie was raised in Chicago and Nathan is from Green Bay; much of their love story blossomed in Madison with long date weekends, bike rides, and a Bascom Hill proposal in May of 2010. So it was only fitting that they got married here too! Nathan and Jackie dreamed of a wedding day that was fun and full of love – just like them. A wedding day that paid homage to Jackie’s Mexican heritage, and had good strong Wisconsin roots too…
meet Jackie…the stunning bride
and Nathan…her dashing groom
Ascension, Jackie’s Father, sees his girl all ready for her wedding day. Elena and Ascension are originally from Mexico; and for Jackie and her parents is was very important to incorporate Mexican Wedding Traditions
The lasso…a symbol of infinity and an everlasting union. This lasso was Jackie’s mother’s, from her wedding day. While we didn’t use the lasso during the ceremony we were able to use it before the wedding in a special and sweet moment where Jackie and Nathan did not have a first look… but did have a first touch.
Jackie and Nathan’s first touch…I love this photo. Nathan is so calm, so in love…Jackie, so excited, so filled with joy, at the moment she took his hand she caught all of her anticipation in a single breath…it was, Perfect.
The Arras or the 13 Gold Coins. These gold coins were also from Elena & Chon’s (Ascension) wedding day. They are so tinie tiny, just a little bigger than a robin’s egg and yet they symbolize so much…a promise to provide for the family; good wishes for prosperity; and for Jackie and Nathan, wonderful examples from both of their parents of supportive and lasting marriages.
Nathan and his mother Lori as she pins on his boutonniere…there is always something so wonderful in the love between a Mom and her boy.
and it’s not a Wedding without a Mariachi Band, right? It was such an adventure to find a traditional 7 piece Mariachi in Wisconsin, it was also quite an adventure to have them play too…amist protestors, a ban on instruments in the Capitol building, some crazy misteps in police permits…the Mariachi Band shined through, filled the capitol with beautiful music and brought tears to many eyes…it was just wonderful. A huge THANK YOU is due to the Capitol Police Department, and in particular to Chief Tubbs, who really came through in the last minute (although I may have bullied him a little).
Thanks to Mandie of Red Gecko Studio, Victor and the rest of the Mariachi of Trio Alma Latina/Mariachi Wisconsin, a very COLD bride and groom, and my son Thad who hauled equiptment in the freezing cold to get me this shot. This particular picture was my dream image of their wedding day and everyone was kind enough to humor me.
To celebrate Jackie & Nathan’s shared love of great food (they are food scientists you know…) Harvest Restaurant was a perfect choice for them. Harvest’s amazing menu combines brilliant flavors and fresh Wisconsin food. The wedding party and guests also celebrated with Don Julio Tequila and Green Bay style Whiskey Old Fashioneds too!
(check out Lavender Hill Events on Facebook to see a video of the Mariachi Band playing at the Wedding)
Jackie is a Chi Omega gal. Chi Omega gals love owls. I collect owls, I wear one around my neck and have about 5 owls in my office alone.Jackie and I bonded over owls. We came up with the idea to have Jackie and all her Chi Omega besties in a photo op together with some owls!
A particular owl sweetness, Jackie’s something borrowed…a little sparkling owl in her beautiful bouquet.
At the bar at Harvest and fun is being had.
Congratulations Jackie and Nathan!
Thank you for letting me share in your story and in planning your wedding day.
Cheers! ~ Jenny
